mourningamerica.org; A new memorial website for victims of coronavirus virus

Just two weeks after its launch, the tribute site www. MourningAmerica.org now lists more than 1,500 victims of the coronavirus, including biographical information, photos and remembrances of those who have passed. Additionally, the site, launched by Dr. Dermot Jevens and Dr. Rebecca Heiss, has recorded over 10,000 unique visitors since it went live, allowing anyone who comes to the site an opportunity to add someone who has died from the virus as well as post memories and tributes to those already listed. While numerous news organizations have created their own memorial sites, www.MourningAmerica. org, whose tagline is “More Than A Number,” is the only non-profit cause allowing people to pay their respects online. It also includes the largest number of healthcare workers who have fallen victim to the epidemic.

The Digital Divide, Our Glaring Reality

At the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the City of Pharr acted quickly in efforts to flatten the curve and mitigate the spread of the virus. Having already witnessed the devastating effects of COVID-19 in other parts of the world, I issued one of the region’s first Emergency Orders. The city quickly proceeded to open a call center, coordinated resources with our local school districts, and immediately requested additional resources and support from our state and federal leaders.
