Urban wildlife is far more diverse than one might think as we bustle about our daily lives. Yet if we slow down to look at a flower, peer in a tree, or listen to the sounds in our neighborhoods, that perspective shifts. And with iNaturalist, learning what life is around us is easier than ever.
EDINBURG — While hospitals across the country report a decline in patients admitted for strokes, heart attacks, emergency appendectomies and other urgent health concerns, physicians at DHR Health caution that the decline may be attributed to people’s fears about being admitted to the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. With policies and protocols in place to prevent disease spread within the hospital and clinics, doctors are reminding patients to pay close attention to their health and to contact their healthcare provider when experiencing unusual pain or symptoms.
EDINBURG – Employees from the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library have always been available to assist in any crisis. To keep our community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Library had to close its doors. That did not stop the staff of the Edinburg library from trying to make a difference and supporting the City’s First responders and COVID-19 Task Force. They did what they do best and started researching ways to help. Through a grant a few years ago, the Sekula Library received a 3D printer and staff members are now using that printer to create 3D printed Face Shields to help keep Edinburg’s First Responders safe.
McALLEN – In an effort to provide support to local restaurants, McAllen Public Utility will be waiving wastewater surcharges through the end of July 2020. Wastewater surcharges are assessed to compensate for the extra treatment that must be conducted due to excess grease or industrial waste collected into the wastewater systems and treated at the wastewater treatment plant. MPU is relaxing the requirement to have grease traps cleaned every 90 days due to less volume of wastewater coming from these businesses.
PHARR – The City of Pharr is proud to announce a new initiative to help feed Pharr families in need in collaboration with Fazoli's, and local school districts. The entities are working together to ensure that families most in need across the community have access to free meals, amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
