Amazing. Four Americans kidnapped last Friday in broad daylight in downtown Matamoros, close to the international port I used to cross on foot many moons ago to get my boots shined at the little plaza near the bridge crossing.

There’s this oddity in Hidalgo County — okay, one of many. We have a current unemployment rate of 6.8 percent, according to county data, compared to approximately 16.1 in late May 2020, when COVID was really starting to kick us in the... Yet, there are still so many businesses I visit that have “Help Wanted” signs taped to their respective front doors.
