President Joe Biden now holds the absolute record when it comes to issuing pardons. Everyone in jail in the District of Columbia or in a federal prison anywhere because of marijuana possession has now been pardoned. There is a question, of course, as to whether these pardons apply to future smokers as well. It is doubtful that anyone can be pardoned in advance of committing a crime. Does that mean that Uncle Joe will have to issue new pardons every week? When he leaves office, will any of those pardoned be re-arrested if they light up a joint? Why didn’t Uncle Joe ask Congress to pass a law decriminalizing possession and granting amnesty to those already arrested? Additionally, why did Joe suddenly decide to declare pot smokers guiltless?

Campaign professionals generally instruct candidates to begin their campaigns with negative advertisements about opponents and then (a week or two before an election) shift to positive ads about themselves so they won’t appear mean to the voter as he/she enters the voting booth. To this point, candidates are coming across as decidedly nasty. I don’t think I’ve ever seen campaigning as decidedly negative as has characterized the ads this year. What’s even worse is that these ads sometimes go well beyond deceptive to contain outright lies about candidates. Take the House Democrats’ treatment of Mayra Flores, for example. One of the ads opposing Ms. Flores paints a picture of her as being complicit in the Jan. 6th death and injury of policemen. There’s only one problem. No police officers were killed on Jan. 6th. Nor did Mayra Flores participate in the demonstrations. House Democrats are simply doing everything they can to convince you that anyone who believed there was a significant amount of fraud in the 2020 election is an “insurrectionist.”
