On the last Wednesday in May, a freight train pulled into London and set off a shredded paper celebration of the reopening of the old silk road. The train had during the previous 18 days carried a load of freight from central China through Pakistan and Russia and under the English Channel. China viewed the achievement as a public relations home run. European experts were not quite so sure.
AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott on May 26 issued a proclamation giving the green light to more services and activities in a second phase of the state’s plan to reopen from mandatory pandemic closures.
Life in quarantine has made us all feel like orphans, to one degree or another. We stay at home. We avoid crowds to reduce the risk of either catching the virus or infecting other people. Many of us are dealing with feelings of isolation, depression, boredom, and hopelessness. Lack of social contact and interaction has made us feel, well…alone. We let fear and impatience get a toehold on us. We can even begin to question the God who loves us, Who made us, who promises that he hears the cries from His children, Who promises to deliver us from our sin and suffering… to always be there.

One of the few good things to come out of the government-mandated shutdown is that many parents have started homeschooling their children. Many of these parents are likely to continue homeschooling after the government schools reopen.
