One afternoon a couple of weeks ago, as I revisited the a few of the family files I’ve kept over the last 30 years of my genealogy pursuits, most handwritten and/or printed email correspondence from the 1990s, I happened across one sheet that took me back a good 20 years—an email I sent to my wife (née Ream from the German Riehm) in Texas about one particular intrepid exploit, a 225-mile drive from Columbia, MD, northwest to Kit-tanning, PA, in a 1988 no-frills Ford Escort with a poorly working heater and a proclivity for shutting itself off (usually while on an interstate highway). I said more than one prayer while chugging through the Allegheny Mountains. There was snow everywhere and it was very cold. The following is an excerpt from that email sent Sunday, February 1, 1998:
