LA JOYA — Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $14,962 in federal funds for La Joya’s Housing Authority. A common advertising slogan used by builders of townhouses, garden homes, or condominiums is “Trouble-Free Living.” I would love to sign a sales contract that could produce trouble-free living. When the black death crept across Europe in the 1400s it killed a third of the population. Fully half those living in England died. The poor succumbed. The rich expired. Relatives inherited and wealth was concentrated into fewer hands. Some looked at the grave markers strewn around them and decided it was time to put their trust in Christ and get right ously to the church. Many of with God. They gave generously to the church. Many of the cathedrals which exist today were built with those funds. Others looked at the death around them, noted the uncertainty of life, and decided to eat, drink and be merry because tomorrow they might well die. The town of Oberammergau in Germany, on the other hand, vowed to put on a passion play if God allowed them to survive. They have done so every decade since then.
