The Robert Vela SaberCats went up against some great odds as they took on the PSJA North Raiders in Pharr this past Friday in a district matchup.
It was a packed house here Friday as two of the toughest teams in the Rio Grande Valley went toe-to-toe with one another.
Although the UTRGV Vaqueros (7-11, 3-6) were away from home for the past two weeks, they capitalized on the home opportunity when they faced McNeese State (14-4, 7-2) on Saturday at the Fieldhouse and won 79 76.
The Weslaco Panthers (26-3, 3-0) are arguably one of the top teams in the region and the win against the PSJABears (14-10, 1-2) helped solidify that statement. The 68-28 district win now gives the Panthers a three-game winning streak and tied for first place in 31-6A with Edinburg.
