Bird Brains plays again July 9-17 in Pharr

PHARR – Bird Brains the original one-act family musical, written by Pedro Garcia and directed by Seres Jaime Magaña, returns this July 9 and July 10 at 8:00 p.m. to the newly remodeled Pepe Salinas auditorium (indoors) at 1011 W Kelly Ave. in Pharr. The musical then travels to the Development & Research Center in South Pharr (indoors) at 850 W. Dicker Rd on July 17 for two shows, at 3:00 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m.

Buying Atrocities

Last week, House Democrats introduced a bill that would require your tax dollars and mine be used to pay for abortions around the entire world. Republicans objected and proposed an amendment that would prevent our money from being used to fund forced abortions in China's genocide against its Christian, Muslim, and Falun Gong minorities. Democrats voted down the amendment. Republicans then proposed an amendment that would maintain our “Mexico City policy,” which prevents tax dollars from being used to fund abortions when in conflict with the laws of the foreign government in question. Democrats voted it down.

Announcing SOUTHERN EXPOSURES

For those looking for fun and educational activities this summer, nature photography is a great way to pull kids away from the computer and TV. The Valley Land Fund and Quinta Mazatlán invite children and/ or youth groups to enter the Southern Exposures Youth Nature Photo Contest (SXP). Children from ages 5 to 18 can enter their original photographs taken in nature this summer in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The contest is designed for all ages and all experience levels. Every child will be a winner with one featured image in the Photo Exhibit, receive a free t-shirt and enjoy the Awards Ceremony at Quinta Mazatlán on the evening of August 19, 2021.

McAllen Parks & Recreation Department hiring lifeguards, others

The City of McAllen Parks & Recreation Department is currently hiring lifeguards for various aquatic facilities throughout the community. Minimum requirements include that applicants must be at 16 years of age or older; must have current certification in both American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and American Red Cross Standard First Aid; and must present certificates of completion.
