What to do if you find a lost pet this July Fourth weekend
EDINBURG – More dogs and cats get lost around July fourth than any other time of year. The vast majority will be picked up less than a mile from their homes! Despite this, hundreds of found pets are typically brought to Palm Valley Animal Society and other area shelters after the July Fourth holiday. With Palm Valley Animal Society already over capacity levels and other area shelters full or nearly full as well, we need to work together as a community to get as many lost pets as possible home, in order to avoid further overcrowding.

McAllen Animal Control seeks 60-day moratorium on picking up opossums
McALLEN – McAllen City Commissioners recently suggested a 60-day moratorium on picking up opossums. McAllen Animal Control wardens collect stray cats and dogs, as well as opossums and delivers all animals to the Palm Valley Animal Shelter. There, the shelter works to prepare the cats and dogs for fostering or adoption; opossums are generally let loose into rural areas by the shelter.
Looking for an Exotic Pet?
If you’re looking for an exotic breed of dog or cat, this week Cinderella may just have the right pet for you. Opalesque is a handsome male Flame Point Siamese cross, and Bertrille is a beautiful female Belgian Malinois/ Pharaoh Hound cross. However, even though their breeds are exotic, these two are as friendly and uncomplicated as a pet can be. Both were born in 2020.
