McALLEN - We did it! On Wednesday morning we kicked off the inaugural IMAS Day of Giving, and we are pleased to share that in just one single revolution of the Earth, we received 37 individual donations and have exceeded our original goal of $40,000 by over 10%, raising a total of $44,754.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced $1,475,883.99 in funding for the city of Pharr to hire new firefighters. This funding is part of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Fiscal Year 2019 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program which is designed to strengthen the nation’s ability to respond to fire and fire-related hazards and improve the nation’s preparedness.
EDINBURG — When Hurricane Hanna hit the Rio Grande Valley in July 2020, it was the first hurricane to make landfall in Texas since Hurricane Harvey in 2017. The storm hit a region that was already struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic, which magnified the impact.
Keep McAllen Beautiful (KMB) conducted the annual Community Appearance Index on September 21, 2020. The Community Appearance Index is a tool designed by Keep America Beautiful to visually assess the overall appearance of communities. The survey team checked for indications of litter throughout its six districts. A team comprised of community and government representatives conducted the visual analysis using a scoring system ranging from 1-4, with “1” being the best to “4” being the worst littered areas. The Litter Index for McAllen rated a 1, minimal or no litter, based on the 60 sub-areas of the six single member districts that were scored during the ride-along throughout the city.
