EDINBURG — Two Hidalgo County residents have been selected as fellows in the Texas A&M AgriLife’s leadership program. Giovana Benitez of Edinburg and Hidalgo County Judge Chief of Staff Isaac V. Sulemana will be participating in the program over the next two years.
PHARR — All Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD Pre-K-5th grade students can stay physically fit this summer through the district’s First Summer Virtual Open Gyms from June 8-25, 2020, Monday-Thursday from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
Vanguard Academy is a proud recipient of the 2019-2020 Summer Career & Technical Education Grant from the Texas Education Agency that is focused on providing an innovative STEM education. The $50,000 grant offers to fund a remote learning summer bridge program in STEM- Engineering, and Cybersecurity & Networking Systems for incoming 8th and 9th grade students. Another component of this grant offers students an “Earn While You Learn” experience through a work-based learning/ paid internship program. Senior students interested in the STEM- IT Program of Study will continue to engage in job-shadowing and gain mentorship experience from our Vanguard Academy Information Technology (VAIT) department throughout the month July 2020. Student interns participating in this paid internship will earn $9.00 per hour, gaining 80 hours of work experience by assisting our IT department in preparing and deploying over 1,600 chromebooks, laptops and other electronic devices at the different campuses assigned. Vanguard Academy is committed to our community and has invested in technology to not only be a one-to-one device district in preparation for the upcoming Fall 2020 semester, but is preparing a next generation workforce ready pipeline that will seek their future in a STEM career.
