I stopped by Uvalde two weeks ago on my way to San Antonio. It was out of the way, but I wanted to go by, look at the school and get a feel for the town. I also wanted to pay my respect to the lost lives and the families left behind.
You remember the days when there wasn’t a lot of crime down here to report? Guy arrested for urinating in public behind the dumpster. I used to have a lot of those in the police blotter.
I’m a gun guy. Handguns, a shotgun, so-called assault rifles; but despite that, I’ve finally reached the conclusion that rifles like the AR-15 and the AK- 47 with their high-capacity magazines are good for only one thing — killing a lot of innocent people, including, sadly, children, grandchildren, teachers.
Most people don’t know this, but the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled, as have lower federal courts, that police have no Constitutional duty to protect the public. The only exception is someone who is already in police custody.
