Some contemporary characterizations of Jesus describe Jesus as a man who did not engage in confrontation or talk about judgment. One modern view of Jesus is that He came as the ultimate peacemaker; as one who sought peace at any cost. This incomplete portrait paints a picture of a Jesus who never challenged anyone other than to call for love, peace, and tolerance. As a teacher of wisdom and a teller of parables, it is claimed by some that Jesus did not force people into hard choices, but was a religious genius who was kind, compassionate, and gentle.
For months, the Washington Post and the rest of the mainstream media kept a morbid Covid-19 “death count” on their front pages and at the top of their news broadcasts. The coronavirus outbreak was all about the number of dead. The narrative was intended to boost governors like Cuomo in New York and Whitmer in Michigan, who turned their states authoritarian under the false notion that destroying people’s jobs, freedom, and lives would somehow keep a virus from doing what viruses always do: spread through a population until eventually losing strength and dying out.
MCALLEN — Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced the return of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) to South Texas. Following months of work, Congressman Gonzalez cemented a deal between PBS and Entravision to broadcast in the Rio Grande Valley.
While in line to pay for a few things at Walmart recently, the cashier noticed the logo on my shirt. She leaned forward and read aloud “Zion Lutheran Church in Alamo, Texas.” Then she asked if that was my church. I said, “Actually, I’m the pastor.” To that she inquired “What is ‘Lutheran?’ Are you a Christian?” I nodded and before I could say anything, she wanted to be sure, so she asked, not indirectly, “Do you believe Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior, who died for your salvation?” I responded, “Yes, ma’am. Yes, I do.” I detected a smile under her mask, and I was certain that later on she would talk about this guy—a “Lutheran”—who said he was a Christian (likely implying also).
